About The Position

The position involves conducting intake with charging parties regarding Chapter 4112 of the Ohio Revised Code, which pertains to alleged discrimination. This includes gathering general information for submitting charges, preparing charge affidavits, and evaluating forms to ascertain jurisdiction. The role requires investigating single issue charges of discrimination, gathering evidence, and conducting onsite and fact-finding conferences with complainants, witnesses, and respondents. Additionally, the investigator will counsel complainants, collect documentation, and maintain a satisfactory level of production to meet contractual obligations. The position also involves analyzing case materials, preparing legal documents, and performing clerical tasks related to investigations. Other duties may include responding to public inquiries, assisting in training new investigators, and participating in establishing investigative procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of associate program coursework or undergraduate core coursework in human resources, business administration, public administration, liberal arts or related field of study.
  • 3 months training or experience in investigation methods and techniques.
  • 3 months training or experience in interviewing.
  • 3 months training or experience in human relations or public relations or equivalent experience in dealing with the general public.
  • 3 months training or experience in operation of personal computer/video display terminal.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake with charging parties regarding Chapter 4112 of Ohio Revised Code.
  • Prepare charge affidavits and intake interview forms, evaluating forms for jurisdiction and basis of discrimination.
  • Investigate single issue charges of discrimination, gathering evidence and conducting onsite and/or fact-finding conferences.
  • Counsel complainants and interview respondents and witnesses, collecting information and documentation related to discrimination complaints.
  • Contact witnesses and respondents, handle depositions, and prepare subpoenas and legal documents for investigations.
  • Analyze case materials and submit preliminary information or prepare reports of findings for supervisors.
  • Operate personal computer/video display terminal to enter and retrieve information and generate reports.
  • Perform clerical tasks related to investigations and follow-up, including responding to inquiries and updating case files.
  • Assist in preparing conciliation agreements, consent orders, and settlement agreements.
  • Perform other assigned duties, including responding to public inquiries and assisting in training new civil rights investigators.
