About The Position

The Office for Civil Rights and Equity empowers members of the CSUF community to understand and act on their rights and options for identifying, addressing, and preventing alleged discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct based on protected status such as Age, Disability, Gender, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, Genetic Information, Marital Status, Medical Condition, Nationality, Pregnancy or related conditions, Race or Ethnicity (including color, caste, or ancestry), Religion or Religious Creed, Sex (including Sex Stereotyping or Sex Characteristics), Sexual Orientation, and Veteran or Military Status. The Office for Civil Rights and Equity is seeking student assistant peer educators to help the Prevention and Education team in developing, implementing, and assessing education and outreach programs for students in a diverse university setting. Under the direction of the Prevention and Education Coordinator, Peer Educator student assistants will work to increase student engagement with departmental education and prevention efforts. Duties will center around event support, administrative work, and assisting with workshops. Peer Educators will be able to develop skills such as leadership, communication, event planning, presentational speaking, and social media management. While discretion and respect for privacy are necessary qualities and individuals in this position may need to talk about topics like sexual misconduct in training, this position will not be part of any response to reports or complaints.

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Event Support – Assist the Prevention and Education team with developing tabling events and workshops about preventing discrimination, harassment, and interpersonal violence, supply purchasing, day-of logistics, facilitating activities, and clean up.
  • Community Engagement - Assist in developing, nurturing, and maintaining relationships with various on- and off-campus groups, including attending events and programs hosted by CSUF campus partners.
  • Presentational Speaking – Assist in facilitating required training for students, workshops for all members of the CSUF community, and activities at tabling events. Content will include topics such as the scope of the Office for Civil Rights and Equity, discrimination, harassment, and interpersonal violence prevention strategies, bystander intervention, affirmative consent, and more.
  • Social Media Management – Assist with creating, planning, and posting social media content (including graphic design, video, and copywriting) on Instagram for the Office for Civil Rights and Equity account.
  • Graphic Design – Create graphics, promotional and communication materials for email, social, web and digital signage using Canva.
  • Evaluation – Provide feedback to the Prevention and Education team about workshops, events, and online trainings and make recommendations for future events.
  • Administrative Support – Assist in cataloging event supplies, organizing activities, facility management, and communicating with on and off-campus partners.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
