About The Position

The Civil Laborer I, II, and III will support primarily, but not limited to skilled civil craft labor for commercial or engineering construction installing, altering, repairing, fixed works, roadway, wet and dry underground utilities, drilling, earthwork, metal erection, mechanical system, structure, fencing; cement or masonry systems. The Civil Laborer I, II, and III provides a broad range of support in areas including hand work, moving materials, trenching, installing conduit, assembling components, installing devices, and basic equipment operation. Includes building improvements within structures. Employee shall be capable of working with minimal oversight yet willing to follow directions and closely adhere to construction industry safety standards. The position is located indoors and outdoors, and the Civil Laborer I, II, and III will be expected to work under all types of weather conditions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred
  • Civil Laborer I: One (1) year General Laborer or other construction experience
  • Civil Laborer I: Knowledge of hand commands
  • Civil Laborer II: Minimum two (2) years related construction experience & capability
  • Civil Laborer II: Knowledge of hand commands
  • Civil Laborer III: Minimum three (3) years related construction experience & capability
  • Civil Laborer III: Knowledge of hand commands
  • Civil Laborer I, II, III: Current government issued driver’s license
  • Civil Laborer I, II, III: Certification for CPR/First Aid
  • Civil Laborer I, II, III: If required, complete a DOT medical physical prior to operating company vehicles on public Right-of-Ways
  • Civil Laborer II, III: OSHA 10 and Osha 30 or EM 385-1-1
  • Civil Laborer I: Capability to learn new skills
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to take direction and be a team player
  • Civil Laborer I: Basic understanding of construction terms and tools
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to read and interpret project specifications, standards, and blueprints
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to learn proper use of equipment, materials and supplies
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to use hand tools and simple power tools
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to perform small intricate operations involving terminations, install and calibration of electrical parts and equipment
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to perform maintenance and repairs as required
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to troubleshoot equipment
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to climb up or down ladders, stairs and scaffolding
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to apply a pushing or pulling force in excess of 50 pounds
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to work in high, precarious places
  • Civil Laborer I: Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Civil Laborer I: Work schedule will require open availability including weekends, holidays and overnights determined by the needs of the business; must be flexible
  • Civil Laborer I: Must be able to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check and drug screening and maintain this status while employed
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Capability to learn new skills
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to take direction and be a team player
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Effective understanding of construction terms and tools
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to read and interpret project specifications, standards, and blueprints
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Demonstrate knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Demonstrate knowledge of effective soil moisture content and compaction means and methods to reach 90% and 95% compaction
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to use hand tools and simple power tools
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to perform maintenance and repairs as required
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to troubleshoot equipment
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to climb up or down ladders, stairs and scaffolding
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to apply a pushing or pulling force in excess of 50 pounds
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to work in high, precarious places
  • Civil Laborer II, III: Ability to Drive Commercial vehicles

Responsibilities

  • Support the project by providing skilled labor.
  • Typical duties may include but not limited to: carpentry, forming, dig, trench, reinforcing, place materials, assemble components, install fencing; construct improvements, support operations, using hand tools or physical force;
  • Load, unload and move materials around the worksite.
  • Perform setup tasks at job site.
  • Support specialty tasks under the supervision of qualified personnel.
  • Operate equipment including but not limited to; laser levels, pavement breakers, jackhammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, as directed.
  • Utilize both power and hand tools as needed for carpentry, digging, trenching, backfilling and compacting materials.
  • When trained and authorized by the Construction Manager; operate machinery.
  • Ensure the worksite is organized and free of clutter, debris and garbage.
  • Produce high quality work, safely and productively at all times.
  • If unsure about any aspect of the work or issues regarding safe practices, ask a supervisor before continuing;
  • Any other task to support the execution of a project, as directed by the Construction Manager.
  • Perform electronic timecard reporting daily and sign timecards weekly to support reporting and payroll activities. Use of personal electronic device using network data may be required
  • Produce high quality work, safely and productively at all times.
  • Communicate deficiencies to supervisor
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program
  • Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others
  • Cooperate with peers, EHS personnel, supervisors, managers, and clients to ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety policies
  • Participate as a vital crew member and contribute towards the success of the project and the organization
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas
  • Collaborate with other company personnel to meet organizational deadlines and objectives
  • Complete daily reports and timecards and support the construction manager
