About The Position

Kleinfelder's Geotechnical team is looking for a Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Co-op to join our Geotechnical Engineering Team in Exton, Pennsylvania for the summer of 2026. This role offers a wide range of challenging project work to tailor solutions to our Clients' Infrastructure Needs which include: Natural Gas and Electric Transmission and Distribution, Solar and Renewable Power Generation, Site Development and Earthwork, Water Supply, Wastewater and Stormwater Management Systems, Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation, and Roads and Bridges. The Co-op would run from May 2026 through September 2026.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a B.S. in civil engineering or geology with a focus on geotechnics.
  • Desire to learn or experience geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize priorities and multi-task.
  • Can-do attitude and problem-solving mindset are essential.
  • Strong commitment for accountability to project quality and schedule.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to the Kleinfelder safety program requirements.
  • Coursework in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, slope stability, and geology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other design disciplines including Site/Civil, Water Resources, Structural, Environmental, and Mechanical/Electrical/Process (MEP) to be an integral part of the collaborative design and construction.
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations including borings, test-pits, geologic mapping, geophysical studies, and laboratory tests.
  • Assist in the design of foundations such as drilled piers, driven piles, and minipiles.
  • Support trenchless technologies including horizontal directional drills (HDD's) and jack and bores.
  • Engage in geo-environmental applications like slurry walls, geomembranes, and groundwater control.
  • Perform slope stability and excavation support tasks including stability analyses, retaining walls, tiebacks, soil-nailing, and rock-bolting.
  • Participate in ground improvement techniques such as grouting, rammed aggregate piers, and deep dynamic compaction.
  • Conduct geotechnical laboratory tests in accordance with relevant standards and procedures.
  • Prepare basic geotechnical calculations under the direction of a Geotechnical Engineer and assist in reviewing/checking calculations.
  • Learn to use geotechnical analysis software (Geo Studio, gINT, Settle3D, MathCAD).
  • Perform field observation and field measurements such as test pit and test boring inspection.
  • Use Word, Excel, Bluebeam, Outlook, and Teams to effectively communicate with internal and external clients.
