About The Position

The Civil Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for civil and site construction projects within the Builders Group. This role evaluates project plans, specifications, and related documentation to determine labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs, and develops detailed pricing to support competitive and executable project bids. The Civil Estimator collaborates closely with preconstruction, operations, project management, and trade partners to ensure estimates reflect project scope, constructability, risk considerations, and company standards. This position contributes to bid strategy development, cost control planning, and the transition of project budgets from preconstruction to execution, supporting Roncelli’s operational, financial, and quality objectives. Requirements

  • Strong understanding of civil construction means and methods, including earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, and site development
  • Proficiency in quantity takeoffs, cost modeling, and estimate development for complex projects
  • Ability to interpret civil drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and construction schedules
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across preconstruction and operations teams
  • Proficiency with estimating and project tools such as HCSS, Bluebeam, Excel, Procore, and related takeoff or cost databases
  • Understanding of market conditions, subcontractor capacity, equipment availability, and regional pricing trends
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience acceptable
  • Minimum 3 years of civil estimating or relevant preconstruction experience as well as energy experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of civil construction methods, materials, and means
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, OST, ProEst, Excel, HCSS, or similar)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates concurrently while meeting deadlines
  • OSHA 30 required (or ability to complete within 30 days)
  • Pre-employment and annual drug testing required; background check, including driving record, as required by client

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil and site construction projects, including earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, and related scopes
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and analyze drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and other project documents
  • Develop and validate pricing for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and general conditions
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals to ensure accurate scope coverage
  • Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and value engineering opportunities
  • Collaborate with project management, operations, and preconstruction teams to develop competitive and executable bids
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and internal estimate reviews
  • Support bid strategy development, clarifications, and post-bid interviews as needed
  • Maintain organized estimate files, historical cost data, and project pricing records
  • Assist with budget transitions to project teams upon award
