Tetra Tech is seeking an entry-level Engineer Intern (EI) or Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil/Environmental Engineering for our East Lansing or Ann Arbor, MI offices. This team provides design and construction management services for the City of Lansing and surrounding municipalities, as well as municipal and industrial clients across the U.S. Applicants with prior internship, municipal, or consulting experience are strongly encouraged to apply. As a Civil/Environmental Engineer, you will support the design and construction of wastewater and water utilities, stormwater drainage systems, and other municipal infrastructure projects, as well as industrial wastewater treatment projects. This position provides the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Tetra Tech's offices and contribute to innovative infrastructure solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 1-2 years of experience in civil engineering design, with emphasis on utilities (sewers, water mains, pump stations, site grading).
  • Engineer Intern (EI) certification required, with the goal of achieving Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record that must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varying conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and perform light to moderate physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of engineering and field inspection equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software.
  • Familiarity with municipal infrastructure standards and permitting processes.
  • Prior experience supporting design or construction administration for public works or environmental projects.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsible charge of design on diverse infrastructure projects in water/wastewater treatment and conveyance, including QA/QC responsibility.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across multiple office locations and support projects that may require occasional travel.
  • Engage with infrastructure engineering experts across Tetra Tech's broad U.S. geography.
  • Assist Project Managers in developing business and demonstrating technical expertise to clients.
  • Stay informed of new and innovative approaches to municipal wastewater and water infrastructure design.
