Our 24 independent districts work together under a Joint Administration Agreement to deliver essential wastewater and solid waste services efficiently and effectively. With over 1,800 employees, including more than 200 engineers, you'll play a key role in operating and maintaining a vast network that keeps the Districts critical services flowing. With 1,400 miles of sewers and 49 pumping plants, 11 wastewater treatment plants, 2 landfills, 2 energy recovery facilities, and 2 materials recovery/transfer facilities, your work will protect public health, safeguard the environment, and shape a sustainable future. The Districts does most engineering work in-house, and we are looking to fill positions in design, energy recovery, stormwater management, operations, water and air quality, planning, construction, and source control.       As an Engineer, you have the opportunity to be involved in every phase of our work, from project conception to operation. Since most engineering work is performed in-house, you have the opportunity to see your projects through from start to finish. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong technical writing and communication abilities, analytical thinking, and effective project management skills. Initial salary placement will be determined based on your qualifications and experience.  This is a career path opportunity with clear progression (Engineering Associate II -> Engineering Associate III -> Civil Engineer level/PE), allowing you to advance after reaching experience and performance milestones.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of:  Engineering theory and practices; principles and practices of physics, chemistry, and higher mathematics used in performing complex professional engineering work.
  • Ability to: Analyze large-scale and complex engineering challenges and develop effective, practical solutions; apply advanced engineering principles and sound judgment; prepare comprehensive technical reports; clearly and concisely produce high-quality technical documents and professional engineering correspondence.
  • A valid California Class C driver license must be obtained at the time of hire. Applicants who possess a valid out-of-state driver license may be appointed, provided they obtain a California driver license within the timeframe required by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) following establishment of California residency.
  • All degrees must be obtained from an accredited college or university in the United States. If a degree was obtained from a foreign college or university, it must be evaluated through a credential evaluation service at the applicant's expense.

Nice To Haves

  • ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
  • master's degree in environmental engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
