About the position

This position is a federal role that requires candidates to demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the job. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs. Candidates must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in their resume, including the total number of hours worked per week. The Hiring Manager may consider applicants who are currently enrolled in a relevant educational program and expect to complete their education within 9 months of applying. The basic requirements include a degree in engineering or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of engineering principles. Additionally, candidates must meet minimum qualifications that include specialized experience or educational achievements relevant to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering reports and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
  • Visit construction worksites to oversee compliance with engineering procedures.
  • Design new construction or improvements to existing facilities.
  • Assist in resolving issues related to contracts and construction activities.
  • Evaluate designs and specifications to ensure they meet project requirements and budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Combination of education and experience in engineering.
  • Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT).
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Completion of a 5-year program of study leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Experience in preparing engineering reports and ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
