About The Position

Thornton is looking for an enthusiastic engineer just starting off their career to join our Development Engineering team. The Development Engineering group is a small team and looking for someone who wants to jump in to learn and take a key role in working with the team to update our standards and specifications. The Civil Engineering Tech will also assist staff Engineers on new development projects throughout the City. They will learn Thornton's development process as it relates to commercial and residential development.

Requirements

  • Associate of science degree in a related engineering discipline from an accredited college, university or technical school.
  • Two years' experience in performing surveying or other routine technical engineering work.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and field support to professional engineers and construction staff.
  • Creates maps on the Geographical Information System (GIS).
  • Conducts research and field work.
  • Compiles report data and maintains a variety of records.
  • Operates computer aided equipment to draft, sketch and compile survey field notes.
  • Maintains and updates records including City water, sewer, storm sewer, and street drawings.
  • Compiles data for various City reports such as quarterly goals and objectives.
  • Develops and maintains computerized engineering programs.
  • Prepares, assembles and distributes copies of maps, charts and blueprints.
  • Performs field inspections for asphalt and concrete sites.
  • Provides assistance to field staff with utility locates and general field inspection.
  • Prepares and drafts technical engineering plans for construction projects.
  • Responds to questions and concerns from the public.
  • Provides technical and field assistance to inspection staff.
  • Performs and verifies mathematical calculations related to surveys and drafting.
  • Attends staff meetings and provides information.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
