We are currently looking for energetic and knowledgeable civil engineering students to fill entry-level, temporary, Summer Civil Engineering Intern positions for our Urbandale and Cedar Rapids Offices in 2026. You will work under the direction of a senior team member and receive specific instruction for required tasks and project components. Duties may include: CAD design/drawing, basic engineering calculations, and field construction observation and materials testing. Instruction in basic AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer will be provided as you begin to apply engineering education to practical design solutions. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress; currently enrolled at an accredited university majoring in Civil Engineering
  • Experience in transportation or construction engineering a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of civil engineering to projects
  • High level of creativity
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Successful candidates will be articulate with professional presence, with solid decision-making, planning, and organizational skills
  • Valid Driver's License required

Responsibilities

  • Drawing (AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer) assignments to assist in development of project plans.
  • Standard computations or analysis.
  • Observe construction activities, assist with materials testing.
  • Perform basic survey services.
  • Perform bridge inspections in the field and assist with generating inspection reports.
  • Assists on other tasks such as: hydrology and hydraulics studies, report preparation, preparation of permit applications.
