About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting a Civil Engineering Specialist at the MDT/MSU Design Unit. This unique cooperative program, administered by MDT and located at MSU in Bozeman, is dedicated to guiding MSU engineering students toward rewarding careers in transportation design.

This position is responsible for complex road or hydraulic design, construction cost estimating, scheduling, and preparation of construction contract plans and proposals. The ideal candidate is flexible with knowledge, experience, or willingness to learn and perform road or hydraulic design activities. Incumbents work closely with Design Project Managers in all areas of duties assigned including collaboration, mentoring, and providing technical support to other project team members and Engineering Division staff. Incumbents have the skill and discipline to work independently, under the supervision and direction of a Design Project Manager.

Requirements

• The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Four (4) years of experience in progressively responsible roadway design engineering.
• An EIT license is required.
