About The Position

The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a full-time Civil Engineer in the Public Works Department. The person in this position will be responsible for the various aspects of construction engineering, plan design, project management, and supervision; will also be required to perform other duties in support of the Public Works Department. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or closely related field from an accredited university
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months
  • Valid State Driver's license, or ability to obtain one; must maintain an insurable driving record
  • Considerable knowledge of surveying, inspection, and implementation of contracts, plans and documents
  • working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in survey and other engineering work
  • ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • ability to work from construction specifications or plans
  • Skilled in the operation of listed tools and equipment
  • ability to perform engineering tasks under varying weather conditions
  • ability to observe proper safety precautions
  • must be proficient with computers and other modern technology, including Microsoft 365, GIS, AutoCAD, tablets, etc.
  • must be able to learn new technology quickly
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions
  • ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner verbally and in writing and in a manner appropriate for the intended audience
  • ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and present information to City officials, management, and public groups
  • ability to establish courteous and cooperative working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • ability to prepare presentations and write articles for publication that conform to a prescribed style and format
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations
  • ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Engineer in Training (EIT) in the state of Washington, or attained within thirty-six (36) months of employment
