About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineer to be based in Virginia Beach, VA office. Our growing transportation department is seeking an entry level civil engineer who has a strong interest in roadway and structural design with various transportation projects. Projects may include city and county localities, state transportation agencies and federal agencies. In this role, the Civil Engineer can expect to work closely with our team on transportation engineering tasks including design of highways, streets, lighting, ITS, traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, right of way, traffic control plans, specifications, estimates, public involvement, fieldwork, inspections, construction phase services, transportation systems, drainage structures, surface hydrology, sewers, tunnels and bridge structures. Research, design and construction of fixed works.

Requirements

• Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field

• FE/EIT
• Relevant internship or professional work experience in support of transportation design
• Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software
• Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks daily
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Familiarity with CADD software such as MicroStation

Responsibilities

• Builds analytic and design skills.
• Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
• Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
