About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a creative and highly talented Civil Engineer / Work Zone Traffic Control Manager based in Raleigh or Charlotte, North Carolina. This position will serve as the practice leader for all transportation work zone traffic control design work in the state of North Carolina.

Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline plus ten (10) years of demonstrated relevant experience and/or education including 2 years of leadership.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license in the State of North Carolina or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months of hire date.
  • Specific transportation experience in developing traffic management plans, reports, and specifications.
  • Experience with the following programs: Microstation Geopak and OpenRoads.
  • Experienced in the MUTCD and NCDOT work zone traffic control standards, manuals, processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Valid US Driver’s License required, as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.

Nice To Haves

  • Fifteen (15) years of work zone engineering experience.
  • Five (5) years of project management experience with demonstrated organizational, leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Five (5) years of experience working within the North Carolina transportation market.
  • Five (5) years of experience working on major interstate widening and improvement projects.
  • Experience on major design-build projects with a construction value over $500M.
  • Experience presenting at technical conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical practice leader for the North Carolina work zone team and policy advisor for public agencies.
  • Prepare, review, and exercise responsible charge for deliverables, including working drawings, plans, calculations, reports, cost estimates, and studies to satisfy the goals of North Carolina clients.
  • Complete Traffic Management Plans for all levels of complexity, including Levels 1 through 4 as defined by NCDOT’s prequalification discipline requirements.
  • Author technical reports and memoranda.
  • Maintain a robust quality management system within the North Carolina Work Zone team while maintaining compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Recruit, retain, mentor, lead, and train staff.
  • Independently manage technical tasks and provide staffing plans for projects completed on parallel schedules.
  • Create business development plans for North Carolina clients, especially NCDOT.
  • Manage workflow to ensure program delivery, maintain team utilization goals, and sustain financial success.
  • Create a dynamic team environment for the North Carolina work zone practice while collaborating with teams across the southeast region and the country.
