About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities, both in-house and consultant, leading to the preparation of studies and plans for implementation of the District Improvement Program. The incumbent directs the preparation of studies and plans in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and sound engineering practice.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Five years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Districtwide travel.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during State employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor ("OEIG") or may be subject to a fine.

Responsibilities

  • Assures implementation of the district's Annual and Multi-Year Program through effective scheduling and monitoring of the completion and approval of studies and plans.
  • Synthesizes engineering, sociological, and environmental factors influencing the design of transportation systems.
  • Reviews studies and plans prepared in-house and by consultants for proper design applications of policies and procedures.
  • Trains, directs, motivates, and evaluates subordinate staff to develop and maintain an effective staff.
  • Arranges and conducts public hearings and informational meetings to elicit public involvement in studies.
  • Coordinates the presentation of studies to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at district bi-monthly Coordination Meetings.
  • Ensures subordinate staff performs duties in accordance with department rules, regulations, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
