About The Position

This Opportun i ty WSP is currently in i tiating a search for a Civil Eng i neer for our North Providence, RI or Glastonbury, CT office to b e involved in projects with our Civil Transportation Tea m and be a part of a growing organization that m eets our client’s objectives and so l ves their challenges . The successful candidate will provide loca l techn i ca l assistance for the design, develop m ent, and construction of infrastructure pro j ects and syste m s in the public and private sector. Tasks m ay include basic assistance with the research, design, concept develop m ent, a n d construction of roads, drainage syste m s, rail infrastructure, permitting and land development project s . Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned technical and commercial aspects of projects. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a leve l of quality that m eets or exceeds acceptab l e industry standards for des i gn, safety, and functionality. Your I m pact Under general supervision, perform civil engineering work and assist with conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits. Assist with commercial management of projects including budget and schedule development and tracking, partner and client agreements, invoicing and collections, project team coordination and project execution documentation. Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers to execute project work, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos. Perfor m routine engineering functions and provide technical assistance on various design standards and requ i rements to account for the safety and functionality of en d - users and infrastructure. Generate complete, accurate, and concise docu m entation using electronic syste m s, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs. Comp l y with safety guidelines and sit e -specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, eng i neering stud i es and surveys, and construction. Comp l ete training on assigned tasks . Exercise responsible and eth i cal decisio n - m aking regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and re l ated policies and procedures. Perfor m additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or close l y related discipline .
  • 3 to 5 years of re l evant post education experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues .
  • Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regu l ations, co m pliance practices, and record-keeping requ i re m ents.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effective l y and professionally to an engineering and no n -eng i neering aud i ence.
  • Proficient se l f-leadership with attention to detail, m ult i -tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environ m ent.
  • Ability to work independently under genera l supervision, as well as part of a tea m to m eet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with techn i ca l writing, office auto m ation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of uphold i ng workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcoho l and harass m ent policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific require m ents that m ay extend beyond the typ i cal workweek.
  • Occasiona l travel m ay be requ i red depending on pro j ec t -specific requ i re m ents.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Familiarity with disciplin e -specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, Power Geopak, OpenRoads Designer, & AutoCAD Civil 3 D ).
