About The Position

Under supervision, the Civil Engineer Intern serves in the Bridge Management Section of the Bureau of Bridge Maintenance, Inspections, and Operations, Division of Bridges. This role involves performing civil engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility. The intern will assist in various tasks related to civil engineering functions, structural analysis, and bridge inspections, with flexibility to work on different assignments based on workload.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college
  • A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
  • Knowledge of structural analysis computer software is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in research, investigations, or studies related to civil engineering functions or activities
  • Assist in performing structural analysis of bridge load rating calculations in accordance with load rating policies, procedures, and Federal and State load rating directives
  • Assist in performing the required structural analysis for the City-Owned Bridges to ensure their safety against the heavy weight Trucks and Cranes
  • Participates in field inspection of bridges to assess the condition and to obtain information for project scoping as part of Request for Proposals (RFP) for the procurement of design Consultants
  • Assist in reviewing budgetary plan for bridges rehabilitation projects
  • Perform civil engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility
