About The Position

SSOE is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern - Facilities for Summer 2026. This is an onsite position, and we are open to candidates located in either our Birmingham, AL or Columbus, OH office. The role requires daily in-person attendance at one of these locations, and remote or hybrid work is not available. As part of our commitment to innovation, all team members will be trained on Microsoft Copilot and empowered to use it as a core tool in their everyday work.

Requirements

• Enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering school, majoring in Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Rising Junior or Senior academic year preferred.
• Must be registered with the Office of Professional Experience Program or an equivalent program (if applicable).
• Demonstrated organizational skills are required.

Nice To Haves

• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of Revit or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned tasks under the close supervision of the Department Manager or designee, following specific and detailed instructions.
• Conduct cut/fill analysis, storm drainage, fire, water, sanitary sewer, and erosion control.
• Receive training in Autodesk Civil 3D, essential for civil engineering design.
• Gain experience with Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA) or Infodrainage softwares for stormwater calculations.
• Possibly gain experience with Infraworks and Navisworks for modeling and project visualization.
• Learn and apply department standards, methods, and procedures relevant to your field of study.
• Meet various deadlines for daily duties or special projects as assigned by DM or designee.
• Assist in various duties as needed to deliver quality products on schedule and within budget in a team environment.
• Occasional local travel may be required for client visits as needed.
