About The Position

The Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking Civil Engineers for the Roadway Design and the Structures Sections of the Project Delivery Bureau. There is an open position in Roadway Design where the incumbent will perform various duties of highway design including drafting plans, specifications, and calculating quantities for roadway reconstruction, small culvert rehabilitation, and ledge/slope stabilization. There is also open positions in Structures where the incumbent will be responsible for development of project plans, specifications, and estimates for projects that focus on bridges/pipes/retaining walls and much more across the state. The ideal candidate should have an interest in foundations, roadway, traffic, or structural bridge design, cost estimating, strong computer design and 3D modeling skills, the ability to work on multiple projects at a given time, and strong communication skills. This position will be located in Barre City Place in Barre, VT with an opportunity to telework.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND four (4) years of engineering experience.
• ORAssociates degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND six (6) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as an Engineer Intern.

Responsibilities

• Scoping Analysis - Involves evaluating initial design concepts, collaborating with stakeholders to meet regulatory requirements and standards, and providing cost estimates. Additionally, it entails identifying potential risks and challenges associated with different scoping approaches, such as environmental impacts, permitting requirements, and technical constraints.
• Roadway Design - Design of horizontal alignments and vertical profiles of State roadways as well as superelevation, drainage, stormwater and erosion protection needs.
• Bridge Design - Design and analyze various structural elements of bridges, including superstructures, substructures, foundations, and retaining walls, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• CADD Software - Design engineers utilize CADD software extensively throughout the design and construction phases. CADD software allows engineers to create detailed digital models of bridge structures, roadway, and channel work. Engineers can use these digital models to visualize designs in 3D, make precise measurements, and analyze various design options.
• Collaboration - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, civil engineers, environmental engineers, and transportation planners, to integrate designs with overall infrastructure projects.
• Documents - Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, and other documentation related to design, analysis, and construction activities.
