This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. Under general supervision, completes professional engineering duties including drafting within a computer aided environment, designing and preparing construction plans and specifications, and securing permits for complex utility projects including water and wastewater piping installation, rehabilitation or installation of pressure regulating facilities, lift stations, booster stations, and water treatment and wastewater treatment upgrades. This position inspects, oversees, and directs construction work to ensure compliance with contract documents. Facilitate and participate in public process meetings for projects. Duties will also include quality control reviews of designs prepared by others. Administer professional services contracts. Perform construction contract administration including permitting, pay estimates, contract compliance, change order review, change order negotiation, and closeout tasks. Participate in the preparation of project studies, budgeting, and scheduling. This position requires organization skills to track and accomplish goals of multiple projects concurrently that are at varying levels of completion. Perform other duties as assigned. Participates in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU's disaster plan matrix, which defines each employee's potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
