About The Position

Michael Baker International, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer I to join our team in Hamilton, NJ. This position involves developing plans for surface transportation projects in accordance with established engineering standards and state or federal construction policy. The Civil Engineer I will prepare designs, specifications, and estimates for transportation facilities, and plan modifications of existing streets, highways, or freeways to improve traffic flow. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and a Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 4 years of experience with civil engineering or related.
  • Expertise with Auto CADD, Microstation, Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, Microsoft Office Power, and GeoPAK.
  • Expertise with OpenRoads Designer and Concept Station software.
  • Familiarity with design sheets for the Highway and Drainage departments.
  • Basic knowledge preparing engineering drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans for surface transportation projects according to established engineering standards and state or federal construction policy.
  • Prepare designs, specifications, or estimates for transportation facilities.
  • Plan modifications of existing streets, highways, or freeways to improve traffic flow.
  • Prepare moderately complex studies, construction documents, maps, basic reports, and other supporting documentation to support civil design.
  • Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and project technical specifications.
  • Interpret data and prepare drawings for highways.
  • Demonstrate proficient skills using various CAD and Microsoft Office programs to produce high-quality design documents, exhibits, computations, and reports.
  • Communicate with Senior Engineers and Project Managers, schedule and attend internal meetings as necessary, and document important action items for the next meeting.
  • Review shop drawings for conformance with contract plans.
  • Assist with defining scope of work and man-hour requirements.
  • Assist with proposal production and implementing marketing initiatives.
  • Assist Project Managers and other Engineers in ensuring that project/task schedules and budgets are met.
  • Coordinate with design technicians to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
  • Prepare documents for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits.
  • Maintain technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.
  • Maintain professional licensure.
  • Occasionally visit project sites, reporting and documenting findings to Project Managers.
