The mission of the Marin County Department of Public Works is to provide quality services and maintain and improve public infrastructure and facilities, while protecting Marin's natural resources. There are two (2) Full Time Regular Hire vacancies, one (1) in the Engineering Division and one (1) in the Land Development Division. Under direction of a Senior Civil Engineer, the Civil Engineer helps define, design and/or review minor projects and phases of large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines. This position exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise to meet program and project needs. The Civil Engineer may be responsible for designing projects, reviewing project plans and specifications prepared by consultants, or reviewing development applications. The Civil Engineer helps in selecting consultants, preparing contract documents, and administering contracts during construction. This position provides direction and mentorship to more junior staff and oversees both technical and administrative work to ensure that work is performed efficiently and effectively for the public good.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering.
  • Ability to conduct engineering analysis and prepare plans and bid documents.
  • Skill in managing project budgets and resolving conflicts professionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of pavement management and maintenance.
  • Understanding of drainage and stormwater management.
  • Experience in local government or working with local governments on projects.
  • Familiarity with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Define, design and/or review minor projects and phases of large civil engineering projects.
