Shive-Hattery’s West Des Moines office is growing and we are seeking entry level Civil Designers who are challenging themselves to obtain their Professional Engineering license. We have needs for additional engineers to assist our clients and staff on a wide variety water resources projects. Interested candidates should have a strong interest and passion for stormwater, urban drainage, flood mitigation, stream restoration, watershed improvements, and green infrastructure BMP’s. You will have an opportunity to work on projects throughout Iowa and other states, working collaboratively on a variety of projects such as: Drainage Studies Lake Restoration Dams Culvert and Bridge Hydraulics Dredging Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Flood Studies Stream Stabilization and Restoration Storm Water Detention Constructed Wetlands Mitigation Banks You will find the right balance at Shive-Hattery. Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering
Experience: A recent graduate or early career Engineer Intern with 0 to 3 years
License/Certification: Successful completion of the Fundamentals Of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer Intern (EI) with interest in obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Software: Microsoft Office AutoCAD Civil 3Dexperience is a plus
Other: Effectively assist on multiple projects and multiple deadlines including planning, organizing, and prioritizing work
Work occasional overtime hours.
Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle.
Climb ladders and work on elevated platforms and open grating.
Wear personal safety equipment required for specific clients and sites.
Pass drug and background screenings required for work at most client sites.

Nice To Haves

Practical experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred, but not required.
Leverage previous internship skills or summer experiences in general civil engineering or construction.
Experience in construction, documentation, and design development is advantageous.
Exceptional communication and organizational abilities.
A keen interest in learning to solve technical problems by enhancing one’s skillset.
An ability to work well within a team and build collaborative relationships with peers.
A willingness to learn system administration tasks for various design software platforms.

Responsibilities

Preparation of AutoCAD drawings, reports and technical specifications
Hydrology and Hydraulic Analysis
Assisting with engineering design for a wide variety of public and private projects in the industrial, healthcare, education, commercial and government market sectors
Assist with performing onsite construction administration and construction observation services including reporting and monitoring contractor's compliance with contract documents
Working with other Engineers on multi-discipline teams
