About The Position

The Civil Engineer Construction Inspector at Leidos will provide oversight and support for construction and installation projects within the National Airspace System (NAS) for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role involves ensuring compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and project specifications while coordinating with various stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. The position requires extensive travel within the central region of the US, with project durations varying from 2 to 9 months.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 4 years of experience as Project Engineer or Resident Engineer with Civil Engineering Design and Project Management experience, or a Master's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and general construction and electrical safety standards.
  • Familiarity with construction techniques related to shelters, roofing, communication towers, and earthwork.
  • Understanding of HVAC systems, building construction codes, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), and fire detection systems.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of NAS facilities such as ASR, ATCT, VOR, ARSR, RCAG.
  • Familiarity with National Airspace System Equipment Building (NASEB) and Equipment Tower (NASET).
  • Understanding of Corporate Work Plan (CWP) 4.1.12.

Responsibilities

  • Provide CI support to the Infrastructure Construction Installation Center in overseeing construction and installation of equipment into the NAS.
  • Participate in Engineering to Construction Hand Off meetings to ensure coordination with Engineering and project details are communicated.
  • Coordinate and participate in Pre-Construction Planning meetings with FAA, Airport Authority, Contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in Integrated Risk Management Coordination (IRMC) Meetings and escalate issues to management as necessary.
  • Review and develop Cutover Plans for various systems, ensuring compliance with approved project drawings and specifications.
  • Set expectations for contractors regarding scope, cost, and schedule changes.
  • Recommend acceptance of GFM and CFM deliveries and test date results to the FAA RE/COR.
  • Visit project sites before construction to gather necessary data and complete pre-construction activities.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA and OSHA safety policies and procedures on all projects.
  • Document project progress in the FAA Weekly Construction Report, including detailed descriptions and photo logs of work performed.
  • Review project documents such as Scope of Work, design drawings, and compliance checklists before heading to the field.
  • Utilize the Project Engineer as a technical resource throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct Joint Acceptance Inspections (JAI) and Contractor Acceptance Inspections (CAI) and provide resolutions for construction-related issues.
  • Recognize and address problems in the field, providing solutions as necessary.
  • Administer safety initiatives and communicate effectively with team members.
