About The Position

This position is intended to be full time in the Summer 2026 with the possibility of starting part time in Spring 2026. In the role of Civil Engineer Aviation Intern, we'll count on you to gain hands-on experience working on active airfield infrastructure projects, such as taxiways, runways, aprons, and drainage systems. You will support design and construction efforts in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) AA Advisory Circulars and airport engineering standards. Additionally, you will assist in preparing engineering drawings, cost estimates, and technical reports related to airfield improvements. Participation in site visits and field inspections to observe construction activities and verify compliance with design specifications is also expected. You will collaborate with project teams, including recent graduates and senior engineers, through HDR’s young professionals program, and perform assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer or project manager. Contributing to other duties as needed to support the airfield design team is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of at least two years toward a Civil Engineering related degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Exposure to or coursework in transportation, pavement design, stormwater management, or aviation planning is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preference given to local candidates or those with a demonstrated interest in aviation infrastructure.
