About The Position

The Civil Engineering Design Engineer I is responsible for performing beginner to intermediate design work on a variety of civil engineering projects, including commercial, residential, and municipal developments. This role supports Project Managers and Senior Engineers by preparing detailed design plans, performing calculations, and coordinating with other team members. The Design Engineer I is expected to demonstrate a solid understanding of engineering principles and industry standards, with supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and/or pursuing PE licensure strongly preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience in civil engineering design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, and stormwater design software (e.g., HydroCAD, HEC-RAS).
  • Familiarity with zoning ordinances, land development processes, and permitting requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines on multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare construction documents including site layout, grading, drainage, utility plans, and erosion control.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, stormwater modeling, and utility sizing.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare and edit engineering drawings and alignments.
  • Interpret and apply local, state, and federal regulations in design efforts.
  • Review work for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
  • Collaborate with CAD technicians, surveyors, and other design professionals.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Respond to permitting agency comments and coordinate revisions.
  • Participate in internal QA/QC reviews and support submittals for approval.
  • Attend project meetings and assist with construction administration when required.
