About The Position

ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES Major Responsibilities - Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, work closely with the Assistant Commissioner for Public Programs and the Chief of Programming & Strategic Management for Recreation to perform very responsible work for the Recreation Division. - Provide dynamic leadership for the creation, development and implementation of sports programs and partnerships. - Provide leadership to a small team of full-time or seasonal staff as well as interns, volunteers and program partners. - Lead borough Sports Coordinators with eye toward innovation, excellent communication and cutting-edge management techniques. - Work with service and product vendors related to Citywide sports initiatives. Organize and report on budgeting and sports spending. - Coordinate and manage special events and programs, including coordinating event logistics, equipment needs, staffing, and creating run of show documents to deliver vibrant, inclusive and dynamic experiences. - Execute internal and external engagement/promotion plans for upcoming events; recruiting participants, designing curricula, creating fliers, promoting opportunities, and documenting program success. - Document programs via photography and program summaries, engage in program evaluation, data collection, program reporting and analysis. - Manage valuable existing sports partnerships and assist in the initiation of new ones including partnerships with the governing bodies of various sports. - Write program proposals, as well as researching and applying for grant opportunities. - Provide administrative and operational leadership to other Recreation efforts, as directed. - Develop and deliver on-going staff development training and opportunities for all staff. - Oversee the monitoring of program records such as attendance data, weekly reports, timesheets, snack reports and expenditures. Ensure high program standards via site visits, audits, parental feedback and interviews. - Assist with special projects as necessary.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
