About The Position

The City of St. Peters is seeking a City Planner to perform entry-level professional planning and code enforcement work under the direction of the Director of Planning, Community and Economic Development. This position supports development review, long-range planning initiatives, zoning administration, and code enforcement activities through a combination of office and field work. The role involves research, data collection, public interaction, site inspections, and preparation of reports and materials related to planning and zoning functions. Normal Shift: Monday-Friday; 8:30 am-5:00pm

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker
  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning or closely related field and a minimum of three (3) years planning experience
  • Must have a Motor Vehicle Operator's license valid in the state of Missouri

Nice To Haves

  • General knowledge of computer and GIS applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, zoning, and land subdivision
  • Knowledge in research methodology and data presentation

Responsibilities

  • Investigate zoning and code compliance complaints through site inspections, ordinance analysis, and area patrols; issue Notices of Violation as appropriate
  • Inspect properties to ensure compliance with approved development plans and coordinate with property owners and developers to achieve compliance
  • Prepare written reports and maintain photographic documentation related to inspections and investigations
  • Provide zoning information and explain regulations, procedures, and processes to residents, developers, and other stakeholders
  • Assist with preparation of cases for prosecution of code requirements and testify as needed
  • Review applications for sign permits and inspect installed signage for compliance
  • Prepare public notices and post properties for public hearings
  • Prepare written and verbal reports related to zoning petitions, site plans, plats, variances, and annexations
  • Assist with rezoning, variance, annexation, and site plan tracking and recordkeeping
  • Maintain and update planning records, maps, and databases, including data used for GIS
  • Prepare materials for public presentations using spreadsheets, charts, maps, graphics, and written reports
  • Assist with research for special projects and support economic development activities
  • Serve as an ombudsman to assist developers, business owners, and residents through development and redevelopment processes
  • Perform all work in compliance with City safety standards and complete other duties as assigned
