About The Position

The Martin County Library is currently accepting applications for a part time Circulation Technician (25 hours per week). The Circulation Technician is responsible for the library’s customer service function during assigned work hours. Additional duties include circulation, reference, interlibrary loan and technical services procedures, as needed for general library operations. The incumbent carries primary responsibility for the main library during evening and weekend hours of operation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists patrons in all aspects of library use, including patrons with varying socioeconomic backgrounds and intellectual abilities. Advises patrons how to find materials using the online catalog and within the library itself. Assists patrons with the use of e-collections and public access computers. Uses the library’s automated system to fulfill library functions including circulation, reference, interlibrary loan and technical services. Includes issuing library cards and processing library fees. Assists in training and supervision of pages. Maintains order in the library. Maintains awareness of patron activity and responds accordingly. Responds to alarms as necessary. Enforces library policy. Opens and closes library in a timely manner. Serves as branch library substitute when needed. Assists with various projects at the request of the Library Director. Ongoing collection services: Order, process, clean, repair and discard materials. Pull, sort and distribute daily transit items. Participates in continuing education and training sessions on position applicable law and regulation changes, computer skills and other position related matters. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Less than one year of progressive experience in related field along with the skills, knowledge and abilities required; or equivalent combined education and experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Considerable knowledge of the library’s customer service function and the ability to respond to and serve patrons in an effective, efficient and helpful manner.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions of job duties.
  • Considerable knowledge of general library operations.
  • Ability to supervise and train subordinates in an effective, efficient manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and have good public relations skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between library locations.
  • Considerable knowledge of modern office equipment, practices and procedures including a computer and other basic office equipment.
  • Software skills, including excellent typing skills, and the ability to use Microsoft Office products including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
