About The Position

Circulation Assistant Job Summary: To perform the more routine library work involving a variety of clerical and other library activities and operations; to assist the public. Perform related duties as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Library Director. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Approximately 20 hours/week Will include nights and weekends. Compensation The hourly pay rate for this position is $17.31; no benefits. Essential Job Functions Duties include, but are not limited to: Check in and check out books and other library materials. Register and verify residency of new library patrons and issue library cards. Provide stellar customer service at the Welcome Desk to all patrons of our Library. Assist patrons in answering routine inquiries in-house and by phone, refer other inquiries for assistance to the librarian. Receive, collect and make change for fees or used bookstore sales. Additionally, use credit card POS systems for the same. Reshelve and shelf-read materials. Sort and distribute mail and check in newspapers. Process hold materials and use library reports to search for items on hold. Operate standard office equipment and laminator. Perform related library and clerical work as required. Minimum Qualifications Some knowledge of library operations, practices and procedures Experience with public/customer service Knowledge of modern office procedures and technology Skill in the use of a personal computer and use of email Must be physically mobile and able to stand, reach, stoop and lift to perform duties Ability to work cooperatively with other employees Ability to read, understand and communicate effectively in English Ability to file alphabetically and numerically Only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted by the Human Resources Department.
