By tracking and sterilizing vital surgical instruments, we reduce the risk of infection, lost instruments, incomplete trays, and surgeon frustration. Our certified technicians provide the expertise, quality control, and strict regulatory compliance to keep the operating room running smoothly. Our SPM supervisors and managers are also instrumental in overseeing operations, conducting in-service training, and working with hospital administrators and staff to find and implement efficiencies that provide on-time service delivery, reduce costs, and ensure patient safety. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Acts as a Lead for the staff assigned to designated hospitals, reviews productivity, scheduling, inventory, physician relations, customer relations and clinical activities for hospital and clinical technicians in specific assigned hospitals. Manages clinical procedures and activities at the account or program(s) to achieve targeted quality outcomes and compliance with The Joint Commission standards, the Company’s policies, applicable policies at the account(s) or program(s), and other applicable regulatory requirements. Performs clinical services with technicians.

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of sterile processing technician experience required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent G.E.D. required.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification as required by hospital
  • Service line specific certification and/or licensure required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience, acceptable.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and management of multiple hospital locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical Scrub technician with a focus in Orthopedics preferred
  • Up to one year of supervisory experience preferred
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related field preferred.
  • Sterile Processing Certification is preferred or within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to clinical associates for all operations in the assigned accounts
  • Coordinate the scheduling of clinical associates, including vacation scheduling and interim coverage.
  • Work with Director to review productivity, labor and the budget to meet or exceed targets.
  • Lead clinical activities to meet or exceed targeted quality outcomes.
  • Lead clinical activities to comply with: The Joint Commission standards; The Company’s policies; Applicable policies at the account(s) or program(s); Other applicable regulatory requirements; and Monitor equipment operations and maintenance requirements.
  • Manage inventory and equipment practices.
  • Oversee the required documentation of procedures performed for medical and billing record purposes.
  • Monitor credentialing files for associates.
  • Manage the implementation of new or modified information systems, policies, procedures or guidelines.
  • Present data to hospital committees and the surgeons on at least a quarterly basis.
  • Work with Director to develop and implement corrective action to address clinical, credentialing or operational issues such as charge capture, time reporting, quality reporting, information systems, and inventory management.
  • Maintain a presence in hospital Operating Rooms as needed for troubleshooting or to provide other communication when necessary.
  • Responsible for area reporting for quality of programs, asset management, staffing and recruiting, local leadership, budget variances and customer account service growth.
  • Build relationships with physicians, operating room staff, and customers including hospital administrators, and hospital materials management and billing employees to: Meet contractual requirements; Resolve clinical, credentialing or operational issues; Maintain client satisfaction; Retain and grow account(s) or program(s); and Market new services.
  • Assist with employment activities of clinical associates that may include but not be limited to the following areas: Recruit, interview and hire new associates; Develop associates through orientation, training and education; Appraise and reward performance; Manage employee relations issues; Develop and manage open communications; Conduct regular associate meetings; and Manage change.
  • Manage the start-up of a new account or program, or new service line at an existing account or program.
  • Perform clinical services on a regular basis and has credentialing privileges at the account or program(s).
  • Decontaminate, inspect, and assemble specialized instruments and trays for the assigned hospital as per the SpecialtyCare contract.
  • Provide additional Quality audits to review trays completed by co-workers to ensure all instrumentation is available, functional and safe for patient use.
  • Perform technician duties 90% of time
  • Communicate with vendors on intake and exchange of instruments including scheduling, availability of instrumentation and coordination of efforts.
  • Establish & monitor event tracking program on vendor trays, errors, wastes and lean opportunities.
  • Monitor “Priority List” to ensure instrumentation is ready and available for all first cases of the day as well as instrumentation that must be reprocessed for “to follow” procedures.
  • Assist in the education of OR and SPD staff on an as needed basis.
  • Review surgery schedule to determine loaner/vendor instrumentation availability.
  • Verify charges or usage of trays for vendors and/or customers.
  • Partner with the vendor and/or customer to facilitate new products ensuring only approved items are used.
  • Assist with trial evaluations of new products.
  • Receive and validate tray contents from vendors ensuring timely arrivals and compliance with facility policies.
  • Consult with OR and SPD staff to identify and implement revisions to instrument trays, naming conventions, count sheets, and methods of specialty instrument identification.
  • Coordinate In-Services for the vendor and/or customer.
  • Assist with immediate needs during procedures such as troubleshooting and rapid room turnover as needed.
  • Coordinate implementation of vendor and/or customer accountability from the Operating Room (OR) to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
  • Participate in Monthly team management meetings when available.
  • Work with other clinical staff and departments in performing the above duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain regular communication with direct supervisor and others as directed in performing job duties, responsibilities and requirements.
