About The Position

The Church Custodian at First United Methodist Church is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in all publicly accessible areas of the church. This role involves performing cleaning duties, minor repairs, and assisting with special events to ensure a welcoming environment for staff, congregation members, and visitors.

Requirements

• Prior custodial/maintenance experience is preferred.
• Valid Driver's License is a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Pass a pre-employment Safe Gatherings certification.
• Strong communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to adjust schedule as needed for church priorities.
• Motivation to work independently or with others to provide thorough, efficient custodial services.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining clean church facilities by performing weekly duties and daily spot cleaning in all public areas of the building, including bathrooms, sanctuary, kitchens, and meeting rooms.
• Working with other staff members and church members to ensure that all areas are cleaned and stocked with necessary items.
• Performing small maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, cleaning and replacing air filters, and restocking bathrooms.
• Assisting with event set-up and clean-up, including setting up and taking down tables and chairs, which may involve heavy lifting.
• Taking inventory of cleaners and other supplies and submitting requests when items need to be replenished.
• Performing outside maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, and trash pick-up, weather dependent.
