About The Position

Section leaders will embody the mission of the church: they’re not just leaders of the choir’s musicality, but also leaders in humility, welcome, and hospitality. Section leaders are expected to enliven and enhance worship through their worship leadership.

Requirements

  • Musical Expertise: Acquires and demonstrates the musical skills required to proficiently execute the essential functions of the job; understands which skills are lacking and seeks to develop those skills; has masterful control of their instrument; demonstrates musical artistry both in their performing and in their planning.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Establishes good working relationships with all others who are relevant to the completion of work; works well with people at all levels of the congregation; builds appropriate rapport; considers the impact of their actions on others; uses diplomacy and tact; is approachable; desires to work collaboratively with staff and church members.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Music or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience in a liturgical worship setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work successfully with teams and with people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the FPC Chancel Choir and/or congregation in congregational song, choral anthems, responsorials, and all vocal music offerings during worship services and rehearsals: Mid August–May: Sunday warm-ups: 10:30–11:00 a.m Sunday 11AM Service: 11:00 a.m–12:00 p.m. Wednesday rehearsals, weekly: 7:00–8:30 p.m. Occasional Sunday afternoon rehearsals: 1:00–2:30 p.m.
  • June–Mid August (Summer Choir): Sunday warm-ups/rehearsals: 10:00–11:00 a.m 11AM Service: 11:00 a.m–12:00 p.m. Occasional Sunday rehearsals, monthly: 7:00–8:30 p.m.
  • During high holy seasons (particularly Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter), additional services, music events, or extended rehearsals will be required.
  • Other music events throughout the year may include choir concerts and/or recitals.
  • On occasion, sing in the 8:30 a.m. chapel worship service on Sundays, as scheduled.
  • Participate in choir retreats or music events off campus, as requested.
  • Lead sectionals or small groups during rehearsals, as directed by the Director of Music.
  • Be on time for rehearsals, warm-ups and services, unless other arrangements are made.
  • Section leaders may be asked to provide solo music throughout the year, as requested by the Director of Music.
