About The Position

The Chilled Water Maintenance Technician at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is responsible for the maintenance and repair of auxiliary equipment supporting the chilled water systems across the campus. This role involves preventive maintenance and repair of various pumping systems, ensuring efficient operation of the centralized and stand-alone chilled water plants that serve over 160 university buildings. The technician will also assist with repairs and modifications to the chilled water system as needed, contributing to the overall reliability and efficiency of the university's energy services.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
• Working knowledge of large centrifugal water pumps operation.
• Working knowledge of large air compressors operation.
• Experience in pipe fitting and welding.

• Experience with daily inspections of chiller plants and equipment.
• Commitment to safety and organization in executing maintenance programs.
• Ability to perform pump/motor alignment procedures using laser alignment equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair of auxiliary equipment for chilled water systems.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on pumping systems of centralized and stand-alone chilled water plants.
• Assist with repairs and modifications to chilled water piping systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair auxiliary equipment used in district cooling systems.
• Maintain communication with supervisors and operators regarding equipment status.
