About The Position

The Chilled Water Distribution Technician at Vanderbilt University is a vital role within the Maintenance and Operations team, responsible for the maintenance and efficient operation of all chilled water systems on campus. This position involves conducting preventative maintenance during winter and ensuring optimal performance during summer months. The technician collaborates closely with other technical staff and reports directly to the Manager of BSC, CTLS, and CWD.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED is required.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
  • Formal mechanical systems training.
  • Experience with Trane, Johnson Controls/York, Daikin McQuay, and Carrier chillers.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift at least 70 lbs.
  • Valid Driver License is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment repairs and updates as needed on chillers, cooling towers, chilled water pumps, and condenser water pumps.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on chillers, including cleaning evaporator and condensing tubes, checking electrical connections, and lubricating motors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on cooling towers, including cleaning fill screens, inspecting gearboxes, and checking oil levels.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on chilled water and condenser water pumps, including cleaning strainers and checking for leaks.
  • Monitor and change filters on refrigerant monitors and complete necessary repairs.
  • Meet with vendors for job projects and manage project execution to ensure quality work.
  • Perform flow studies to improve water flow through campus buildings.
  • Check the AIM system for work orders, assign tasks, and close out completed jobs.
  • Research and order parts as needed and attach work order numbers to vendor invoices for approval.
