About The Position

The Respite Care Manager at Kids On The Move (KOTM) is responsible for supervising and providing behavior management services to children with special needs during respite care sessions. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and volunteers, while also providing temporary relief to primary caregivers. The position involves direct interaction with children, parents, and volunteers, and requires strong communication and organizational skills.

Requirements

  • One Year Experience Working with Children with Special Needs
  • Pass a Background Criminal Investigation
  • Pass a TB test
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Have an acceptable driving record
  • Strong communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills in English
  • Proficient in using a personal computer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a pediatric setting caring for children with autism, medically fragile, and special needs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assumes all responsibility and maintains the overall safety of each respite night ensuring 10 children and 10 to 15 volunteers are supervised and safe.
  • Handles behavioral problems in children diagnosed with developmental disabilities and behavioral conditions in a professional manner.
  • Assists with personal care tasks for children including toileting, diaper changes, eating, and grooming.
  • Communicates with parents at drop off regarding any changes in their child's diet, behavior, or personal-care needs.
  • Promotes a clean and sanitary environment following infection control guidelines.
  • Practices caring with respect for individual, cultural, and spiritual differences.
  • Reports significant changes in the child's status to the family and respite care director.
  • Assesses safety of environment and takes initiative to help prevent accidents and promote safety.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of respite care.
  • Monitors the children and volunteers through a log and submits the log to the director.
  • Ensures that the facility is returned to its original state at the end of each respite night.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships of mutual respect and trust with client families, co-workers, and community partners.
  • Completes a 'Staff Report' which includes any incidents that may have occurred and submits the report to the respite care program director.
  • Receives and responds appropriately to voice messages, e-mails, faxes, and mail.
  • Updates respite staff on child and family status through voice-mail, e-mail, and other appropriate modes of communication.
  • Accurately enters hours worked on the electronic time card program by specified deadlines.
