About The Position

The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an opening for a Children’s Librarian. In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape services for Children’s Services to enhance literacy, learning, and community connections. With support from our Programs and Outreach division, you’ll have the resources to facilitate impactful system-wide initiatives while staying ahead of trends in youth literature, programming, and library services through professional development opportunities. This on-site position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays, with potential assignments at other branches. Requirements

• Masters in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university.
• Public Librarian Certificate, or requirements necessary to apply for a Maryland Public Librarian Certificate, within 90 days of starting employment.
• Experience with automated systems, electronic databases, and World Wide Web resources.
• Experience with Office 365 or MS Office.
• Physical exertion such as long periods of standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.

Nice To Haves

• Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, French, Korean, or other foreign languages.
• Multicultural experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference and reader’s advisory services, with a focus on children.
• Plan and implement engaging programs such as book-talks, story times, and outreach.
• Assist all patrons with catalog, databases, and other digital resources.
• Recommend material for purchase and prepare special reports on youth services.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to grow within the field.
