About The Position

Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, is looking for a part-time Behavioral Resource Technician to join our Children's Emergency Department Team in Springfield, MA. The Behavioral Resource Technician (BRT) is responsible for providing safety observation of the patient or patients they are assigned to, ensuring that the patient does nothing to harm themselves or others. The BRT must maintain a safe environment and interact with the patient, family, and staff in a caring professional manner. The role includes providing care for the patient, which may involve bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning as assigned. The BRT is expected to prevent elopement and harm to self or others, and must document every 15 minutes during their shift. This position requires adherence to system and department compliance policies, and the incumbent is expected to perform other similar and related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • 1 year of relevant patient care experience (required).
  • Prefer 2 years working with behavioral health patients.
  • Experience as a direct health care provider, previous psych sitter, CNA, MA HHA or PCA.
  • CPR through American Heart Association BLS Provider required.
  • CPI required within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safety observation of the patient/s intervening as necessary.
  • Documents patient status every 15 minutes.
  • Independently communicates patient information and observations promptly to the RN.
  • Actively listens to the patient and acts in a caring professional manner.
  • Provides care for the patient; bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning.
  • Maintains a safe environment for the patient.
  • Accompanies the patient off the unit as directed by the nurse.
  • Reports any safety hazards to the RN.
  • Participates in competency validations, educational activities, and staff meetings.
  • Proactively takes vital signs as needed/requested.
  • Assists in stocking treatment rooms and supply carts when behavioral health assignment allows.
  • Performs chest compressions during code blue situations as requested by the charge nurse.
