About The Position

The Children and Family Services Specialist 1 (NY HELPS) position is a full-time role within the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, focusing on evaluating and ensuring the compliance of child care providers. The specialist will conduct inspections, investigations, and provide technical assistance to ensure the safety and quality of child care services in the region.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree AND two years of professional qualifying experience; OR a master's degree AND one year of professional qualifying experience; OR a master's degree in social work.
• Experience providing services to children and their families in various care settings, including foster care, day care, and adoption programs.
• Experience in social casework, case planning, case management, counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in conducting safety assessments and criminal history evaluations.
• Knowledge of child care licensing regulations and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate initial and renewal child care provider applications for licensure.
• Conduct field inspections of licensed child care programs and programs seeking licensure.
• Conduct complaint investigations.
• Conduct safety assessments/criminal history evaluations.
• Initiate enforcement actions.
