About The Position

The position of full time teacher consists of instructing children (2 years up to 5 years of age) in activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development needed in preparation for kindergarten.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass at drug test and submit to random drug screenings upon employment
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to develop activities that are developmentally appropriate and educational for young children
  • Ability to teach young children in rules of conduct and learning new tasks
  • Ability to select the appropriate teaching method and adapt to children’s learning styles
  • Ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, and staff
  • Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to the various needs of children and parents
  • Able to speak to children at their level and in a calm tone
  • Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children
  • Meet initial /annual training requirements
  • Completed 20 semester credits, or 30 quarter credits from a college or university in Early Childhood Education or Child Development OR a Step 8 in the Oregon Registry OR at least 1-year qualifying teaching experience in a certified center
  • Alternatively have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or Special Education, OR a one-year state or nationally recognized credential related to preschool age care
  • Must be enrolled in the Central Background Registry
  • Must have food handlers (can be acquired upon employment)
  • Must have child and infant first aid / CPR certification (can be acquired upon employment)
  • Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated or have approved exemption
  • Must be able to move throughout the building and grounds as needed throughout the day; must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Good visual and hearing acuity required; good verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to speak English effectively. May be exposed to communicable diseases, and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce rules of behavior for children in their classrooms
  • Supervision of group of children at all times
  • Supervise any visitors or volunteers assigned to your classroom
  • Provide basic needs for children
  • Supervision of assigned group of children at all times
  • Supervision of any aides/volunteers assigned to group
  • Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the needs and learning styles of children
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, and other staff
  • Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks and meals
  • Track children’s progress and report to parents
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom
  • Help children reach developmental milestones
  • Collaborate with others to implement lesson plans
  • Encourage children to interact with each other to develop social skills
  • Always provide appropriate supervision for children
  • Maintain inventory system for classroom materials and supplies
  • Facilitate various activities for children including songs, games and storytelling
  • Adhere to health/safety and sanitation procedures
  • Fill out incident reports in a timely fashion and report to supervisor
  • Maintain confidentiality of children and families in the center
  • Be flexible with hours, may be subject to change
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
