About The Position

Under general supervision of the Facility Operations Coordinator, delivers exceptional customer service to patrons and provides care to the children participating in the drop-in childcare program. Provides daily oversite of the drop-in childcare program and staff. Assists with childcare operations and performs related duties as required.

  • Skills in math at a good level.
  • Skills that can be demonstrated in organization including attention to detail.
  • Skills in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Skills that can be demonstrated in excellent interpersonal relationships including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse people in an organizational context.
  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a childcare environment or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree or course work in early childhood education or a related field.
  • Experience working with children aged six months through five years in a public recreation facility.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Previous lead worker experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (Conversational level Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service to the parents and children using the childcare program.
  • Interacts with the Department of Parks and Recreation childcare customers by greeting patrons, answering phones, providing information about services and programs, checking children in and out of the room, and providing general care to children aged 6 months to 8 years old.
  • Communicates effectively with facility patrons in person and over the phone to market and promote the childcare program, which may include giving tours and preparing flyers.
  • Responsible for safety measures and procedures, and equipment maintenance.
  • Provides input to supervisor and/or department for development of safety measures.
  • Ensures seasonal staff and children follow all safety measures, this includes enforcing safety policy and procedures, taking proper care of equipment and maintenance of equipment/materials.
  • Anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.
  • Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and room environment.
  • Assists supervisor in coordinating with Facility Asset Management (FAM) staff regarding the replacement, refurbishment and renovation of the childcare area and on-going maintenance and repair schedules.
  • Completes accident and incident reports and submits to the supervisor regarding accidents/incidents reported by seasonal staff.
  • Serves as a lead worker.
  • Takes lead to oversee day-to-day activities of seasonal childcare staff.
  • Ensures that excellent customer service is provided to the children and parents/caregivers served.
  • Resolves customer concerns, incidents, and issues as they occur.
  • Provides on-going childcare education and best practices to seasonal staff.
  • Remains current in the knowledge of childcare trends, training and equipment and provides recommendations to the supervisor to assist in ensuring program follows current guidelines and best practices.
  • Assists in childcare staff training of safe teaching methods and department policies and procedures.
  • Assists in establishing the childcare program’s policies, procedures, and program hours.
  • Performs a variety of administrative functions such as filing, making and maintaining signs, maintaining the Voice Mail menu system, updating information boards and flyers, maintaining brochure racks and providing support for various center employees.
  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city.
  • Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents.
  • Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.
  • Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and damage to city property.
  • Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and department policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.
