About The Position

The Site Director is responsible for program development, safety and parent communication for the YMCA Afterschool Program. The Site Director will be responsible for maintaining licensing standards as well as managing a monthly curriculum, staff development, fiscal management and program marketing. The Site Director will relate well to both children and adults and possess the ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity.

Requirements

  • AGE: Eighteen years or older
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: OPTION 1: High School Graduate or GED. 12 Units that include courses in (1) child growth & development or human growth and development; (2) child, family, and community or child and family, (3) and program/curriculum. 3 Units in administration or staff relations. 4 years documented teaching experience in group child care program. OPTION 2: Associate of Arts degree with emphasis in early childhood education or child development. 3 Units in administration or staff relations. 2 years of teaching experience in group child care program. OPTION 3: Bachelor degree in early childhood education or child development. 3 Units in administration or staff relations. 1 year experience in teaching in a group child care program. OPTION 4: Current Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or Child Development Program Director Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • RELATED EXPERIENCE: Experience working with children and staff in a childcare setting
  • SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Strong character values, communication skills, emotional maturity
  • LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Current First Aid, Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications, Preventative Health Practices (PHP) required for position.
  • IMMUNIZATION AND PHYSICAL: Current TB, influenza (limited exceptions), pertussis, and measles vaccination and physical exam.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Job is performed in indoor and outdoor environments Ability to lift 30-35lbs

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and implementation of enrollment goals identified in Branch Operating Plan.
  • Ensure that program site is licensed and always in compliance with licensing. Including maintaining licensing ratios at all times.
  • Keep accurate attendance records which include: taking roll, verify absences and maintaining a daily attendance log, sign in and out, and PCG Reports.
  • Implement well-rounded calendar and curriculum that is asset based and achieves YMCA goals with children and families.
  • Ensure all staff interact, initiate and encourage the children in the activities during the day.
  • Ensure all staff manage children’s behavior using a positive approach, including using redirection and constructive discipline, with natural and logical consequences
  • Ensure close supervision of children at all times. At no time will a child be left unsupervised. During outside activities ensure the entire area can be seen at all times. If more than one staff member is on the yard, each staff member will watch a different section of the yard. Ensure staff members are not standing together and periodically must patrol the entire yard.
  • Initiate, establish and maintain strong communications with parents, including complete information regarding program, schedules and special events.
  • Administer continuous program feedback to parents regarding their child/children’s participation and behavior in the program, including one-to-one conferences with parents when necessary.
  • Assist with orientation of parents for fall/summer programs
  • Maintain commitment to safety through regular and documented on-site safety inspections.
  • Meet Association standards for safety and risk management.
  • Ensure that all facilities, program areas and equipment are clean and in proper working order. Report problems promptly and appropriately.
  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of staff using screening tools and panel interviews to gain the best possible fit with each opening.
  • Assist Program Director in the supervision of staff, assuring staff is qualified, certified and are meeting minimum performance standards for their position.
  • Assist in the training of staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis through staff meetings, courses and workshops.
  • Assist in the development of annual operating budget for site. Assist in managing site budget to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual goals.
  • Assist in the development of work schedules, coordinate daily work, and make sure timecards are properly recorded by employees.
  • Promote, establish and maintain good school-program and PTA-program relationships.
  • Identify program volunteer positions and assist with the identification, recruitment and tracking of program volunteers.
  • Work with parent committee to plan and implement regular Family Events.
  • Understand and be able to discuss and promote all YMCA programs and ensure all staff members are familiar with all programs offered at the YMCA so staff are able to inform members of YMCA programs that will meet members’ changing needs and interests.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
  • Demonstrate the YMCA core values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
