About The Position

Childcare Coordinators are responsible for coordinating daily shift operations, supporting and supervising staff and volunteers, and ensuring the delivery of trauma‑informed care and Conscious Discipline practices. The Coordinator provides strong leadership, fosters a nurturing environment for children, and maintains a safe, compliant childcare setting. Full-Time Schedule Available: 6:45am - 3pm This role requires coverage one weekend day per week , with some flexibility to support program needs. On-Call Requirement: One 4-hour on call shift is required per week. On-call requires that you are able to arrive within 30 minutes to help cover the shift and care for children. Pay is time and a half your hourly rate if called in to work. Hourly Pay: Starts at $20 per hour

Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 25 years or older.
  • Education & Experience: 2 years of college coursework in Child Development, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, or a related field OR 2+ years of professional experience in a childcare setting (preferred).
  • Certifications: CPR / First Aid certification required or must be willing to complete certification.
  • Must pass background check and complete Mandated Reporter training.

  • Strong knowledge of child development principles and age‑appropriate childcare practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a childcare facility with both indoor and outdoor components.
  • Requires lifting and carrying children and equipment.
  • Frequent standing, bending, and sitting at child‑level during activities.

Responsibilities

  • Staff & Volunteer Coordination
  • Supervise staff and volunteers on shift, ensuring high standards of care and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Provide hands‑on training to new employees during their first 90 days.
  • Assign shift duties, age groups, and children to staff; conduct pre‑shift meetings and complete thorough shift transitions.
  • Supervise volunteers by assigning meaningful and supportive tasks and guiding their engagement with children.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers accurately record time worked (clock in/out).
  • Serve as secondary coverage for crisis line support when needed.
  • Childcare Coordination & Support
  • Deliver attentive, high‑quality childcare including feeding, diapering/toileting, hygiene, and bathing.
  • Oversee the preparation and serving of meals and snacks following dietary guidelines.
  • Encourage and support children in practicing good hygiene (e.g., handwashing, dental care).
  • Monitor and maintain children's health; administer basic first aid and medications per professional instructions.
  • Engage children in age‑appropriate activities that promote learning and development.
  • Complete Ages and Stages Questionnaires and report developmental milestone achievements or concerns as requested by families.
  • Implement positive behavior management and de‑escalation techniques; guide staff in supportive responses to challenging behavior.
  • Utilize Trauma‑Informed Care and Conscious Discipline practices consistently, both in personal care and in monitoring staff practices.
  • Provide a nurturing, comforting presence; offer emotional support to children as needed.
  • Conduct intakes and discharges alongside the Crisis Support Specialist, ensuring thorough documentation.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain the safety, well‑being, and confidentiality of children and families at Crisis Nursery.
  • Report any knowledge or reasonable suspicion of child abuse or maltreatment according to policy.
  • Complete all required forms, reports, and documentation within designated timeframes.
  • Review shift documentation to ensure accurate tracking of daily information.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs and safety inspections of the facility.
  • Understand and implement state licensure and Crisis Nursery policies (DCFS and internal manuals).
  • Ensure household and shift duties are completed before shift end.
  • Assist with inventory flow; report shortages promptly.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities, including cleaning, organizing, and inventory support.
  • Training & Staff Development
  • Attend daily pre‑shift meetings, monthly team meetings, bi‑monthly all‑staff meetings, and other required trainings.
  • Maintain all required training certifications for direct care employees according to licensing and state regulations.
