About The Position

The Childcare Center Cook/Lead Teacher/Assistant Teacher at St. Labre Indian School Educational Association is responsible for preparing meals for children and staff according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines. This includes daily paperwork for meal participation records, menu preparation, and food production records. The role also involves administering medication to children, filling in as a teacher to maintain proper ratios, and completing required training in food safety and early childhood education. The position is nonexempt and is a 12-month role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; one to three years related child care experience for Assistant Teacher.
  • High school diploma or GED; current Practitioner Registry Level II or higher or two years related child care experience plus 32 hours of approved MT Early Childhood Project (ECP) training for Lead Teacher.
  • Valid Montana Drivers License.
  • Current CPR Certification or obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current First Aid Certification or obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Must obtain 16 hours of approved training annually.
  • Background checks including Criminal Background Check, Child Protective Services Check, Division of Motor Vehicle, FBI Fingerprints, MT Practitioner Registry, and Out of State Check if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and prepares breakfast, lunch, and snacks for children.
  • Prepares daily paperwork for CACFP including meal participation records, daily menus, and food production records for children ages 0-6 years.
  • Provides several fun food activities monthly after planning with Teachers.
  • Prepares formula bottles and takes them to the nursery when needed.
  • Assists with daily laundry.
  • Prepares monthly menus for supervisor’s newsletters and menus.
  • Prepares weekly grocery and milk orders and obtains water jugs at the cafeteria.
  • Rotates food and milk items to ensure freshness.
  • Cleans out the refrigerator weekly and deep-cleans monthly.
  • Follows budget guidelines for food purchases.
  • Keeps kitchen, dining room, and pantry clean.
  • Maintains flexibility in daily routines.
  • Documents all administered medications on required state forms in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Communicates daily with parents regarding medication administration.
  • Administers medications at appointed times.
  • Takes temperatures of children when requested.
  • Contacts parents/guardians when a child needs to be sent home.
  • Handles employee issues or refers them to the Director or Human Resource department.
