About The Position

Be a part of a dynamic and professional teaching team while gaining invaluable experience with young children! The St. Norbert College Children’s Center is looking for several childcare assistants for their summer programs. The childcare assistants will work closely with the Lead Teachers in conducting daily duties such as preparing lessons, serving meals, recording attendance, engaging in play, assisting in putting children to sleep, and most importantly, creating a safe environment. To be successful as a childcare assistant, an individual must have a genuine passion for working with children and demonstrate consistent patience. This role requires a friendly, positive attitude, with an emphasis on building strong relationships by greeting both children and parents by name. A childcare assistant is also responsible for actively supervising children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being. Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old by June 1st
  • Complete all paperwork required by DCF licensing
  • Complete a name-based and fingerprint background check
  • Have a physical within 30 days of hire, or within the past 12 months
  • Comfortable interacting with children
  • Able to communicate with staff and families

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of lead-teachers
  • Support each child’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development
  • Ensure the well-being and safety of children at all times
  • Be present and engaged during class sessions
  • Enforce class rules to help teach appropriate behavior
  • Prepare for instruction by setting up materials
  • Consistently monitor and supervise the children
  • Alert the lead teachers to concerns and emergencies
  • Greet parents each day and address children by name
