The Child Welfare Trainer serves as a trainer for New Staff Training for Social Services Specialists, Social Services Supervisors/Experts, and Social Services Assistants. This position will also be responsible for providing the Division Information Management System (DIMS) training to the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) staff in a classroom setting, labs and in the field. The position is responsible for providing individual consultation with new workers regarding knowledge/skill development and providing feedback to the worker and supervisor concerning the workers progress in training. The Child Welfare Trainer also provides identified training to the child welfare community, and works collaboratively with the local university partners and area DCFS staff as it relates to Child Welfare Reform. The Child Welfare Trainer reports to the Child Welfare Team Leader. This position will require occasional overnight travel with the possibility of extended overnight stays around the state. This position is grant funded and renewed annually. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of DCFS Policies and Procedures and the ability to stay current on DCFS policy and procedure changes and maintain a knowledge of the Arkansas child welfare system
  • Ability to travel in-state and occasional out-of-state travel
  • Ability to work other than normal office hours, nights, and weekends
  • Ability to train others, and work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to meet multiple program deadlines and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office and other software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related Master’s degree
  • Five (5) years of professional experience with children and families (public child welfare)
  • Two (2) years of experience with the DCFS Division Information Management System
  • Experience and training in curriculum development and training delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary trainer for the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Social Services Specialists, Social Services Assistants, and Supervisors/Experts, including classroom training, simulation training, Division Information Management System training, and coaching in the DCFS office as requested
  • Provide new staff training and continuing education workshops for DCFS staff and community-based providers in accordance with DCFS-approved curricula
  • Manage and evaluate new workers’ performance related to training content and skills mastery
  • Attend DCFS mandatory training and continuing education workshops when relevant to the position.
  • Provide individual consultation with new workers regarding know edge and skill development
  • Assist DCFS supervisors and area managers in identifying and meeting workers’ training needs
  • Work collaboratively with DCFS staff, supervisors, area managers, and University Partners to support workforce development
  • Model professional communication and teamwork, both locally and statewide.
  • Collect and maintain required training data and documentation related to training participants and outcomes
  • Maintain required monthly documentation, including contract logs and records of training, consultation, and collaborative contacts.
  • Assist with ongoing curricula revisions and the development of new curricula as requested
  • Present workshops and trainings at local, regional, and state conferences as requested
  • Participate in DCFS workgroups and initiatives when requested
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
