About The Position

The Child Welfare Supervisor in the Orleans Region is responsible for overseeing a unit of professional child welfare staff within the Department of Children and Family Services. This role involves guiding employees in assessing service needs, developing case plans, and ensuring the implementation of these plans for clients and their families. The supervisor will also review child protection complaints, assign investigations, and may serve as a consultant to other supervisors or employees. This position is crucial in ensuring the welfare of children and families in the community.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree plus four years of professional level experience in administrative services, social services, or health services, with three years in child welfare.
  • A baccalaureate degree plus four years of law enforcement or investigatory experience, with three years equivalent to a Child Welfare Specialist.
  • Six years of full-time work experience in any field may substitute for the required baccalaureate degree.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in designing training programs for staff.
  • Knowledge of child welfare laws and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze data for program improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Guide employees in assessing services or placement needs of clients and developing psychosocial assessments and case plans.
  • Review child protection complaints and assign investigations accordingly.
  • Serve as a consultant to other supervisors or employees as needed.
  • Design and deliver training curricula or on-the-job training for staff.
  • Approve plans for the removal of children from their parents or caretakers to ensure their safety.
  • Review recommendations regarding the validity of abuse and neglect reports.
  • Lead family team conferences and multi-disciplinary team staffings for case plans and objectives.
  • Act as a parish manager for administrative functions when required.
  • Gather and analyze data to design and implement recruitment campaigns for adoptive and foster families.
  • Review and approve foster and adoptive home certifications and placements.
  • Supervise quality assurance staff conducting case reviews and providing consultations.
