About The Position

The Child Welfare Supervisor position in the Orleans Region of Louisiana involves overseeing a unit of professional child welfare staff within the Department of Children and Family Services. Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree plus four years of professional level experience in administrative services, social services, or health services, three years of which must have been in child welfare.
  • A baccalaureate degree plus four years of law enforcement or investigatory experience, with three years in a position equivalent to a Child Welfare Specialist.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in Law or related field.
  • Master's degree in social work or related fields.
  • Experience in child welfare or social services.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a unit of professional child welfare staff.
  • Guide employees in assessing services or placement needs of clients.
  • Develop psychosocial assessments and case plans for clients and their families.
  • Review child protection complaints and assign investigations.
  • Consult with other supervisors or employees as needed.
  • Design and deliver training curricula or on-the-job training.
  • Approve plans for the removal of children from their parents or caretakers.
  • Review recommendations regarding the validity of abuse and neglect reports.
  • Lead family team conferences and multi-disciplinary team staffings for case plans.
  • Gather and analyze data to design recruitment campaigns for adoptive and foster families.
  • Review and approve foster and adoptive home certifications and placements.
  • Supervise quality assurance staff conducting case reviews.
