About The Position

The Child Watch Associate is responsible for creating a safe and supportive environment for children in the Child Watch program at the Sussex County YMCA. This role involves supervising children, engaging with them positively, and ensuring their safety while adhering to YMCA policies and guidelines. The position also requires interaction with parents and participation in various YMCA activities and events.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience working with children is preferred.
• Moderate knowledge of the ages and stages of children.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to understand positive guidance and reinforcement techniques.
• Ability to react to emergency situations within YMCA policies and guidelines in a calm and professional manner.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision and make sound decisions within YMCA guidelines.
• Ability to communicate with a wide variety of members and guests in a professional manner, displaying tact and diplomacy when needed.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a childcare or educational setting.
• Certification in CPR and First Aid.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children in the Child Watch room and other assigned areas, scanning for potential harmful situations.
• Redirect children using positive reinforcement and redirection techniques within YMCA guidelines.
• Engage with and welcome every child within YMCA guidelines.
• Engage with parents in a positive and respectful manner.
• Ensure that all children are dismissed to designated parent/guardian.
• Arrive no more than 10 minutes before the start of the room's opening and stay until the end of shift, unless otherwise requested by supervisor.
• Clean and maintain the Child Watch, Game Room, and Center at the end of each shift.
• Attend and participate in open houses, program activities and events, staff meetings, and staff training as requested by supervisor.
