About The Position

Based at a confidential location in the Scenic Rim, the Child Support Worker provides high quality and safe child care and child related family support for families accommodated at our refuge. Our Domestic and Family Violence Refuge is a welcoming haven for women and their children who have experienced the trauma of domestic/family violence. All refuge staff work towards assisting families to regain independence & safety following domestic and family violence. We are looking for a flexible and adaptable individual who will work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve best practice outcomes for womean and families. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting vulnerable children, young people, and families through a holistic and trauma‑informed approach. This position is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Group Leader looking to support vulnerable children and families in a more holistic way.

Requirements

  • passion, commitment and belief in young people
  • minimum Certificate III Childcare or relevant Certificate IV qualification and at least 3 years experience working with children and families
  • demonstrated experience or a good understanding and ability to learn quickly how to work with vulnerable children and families with complex needs
  • knowledge of or a willingness to develop knowledge of legislation relating to domestic and family violence and child protection
  • ability to work collaboratively to increase parental capacity and to communicate with and engage children and families with complex social and family concerns
  • high level interpersonal and written skills and well developed planning and time management skills

Responsibilities

  • contribute to the planning, development and implementation of programs and activities for children, young people and families
  • supervise and care for children within the refuge setting in collaboration with their parent and the program team
  • deliver children’s activities and adjunct care
  • support parents to strengthen their parenting skills and support with practical parenting demands such as settling and sleep routines, meal preparation, boundary setting
  • develop and participate in a range of social, recreational and educational activities for children, young people and parents
